The historic four-storey Chinese Museum building was built in the 1890s as a furniture factory and warehouse for the Cohen Brothers. The Museum itself was established in 1985. It is located behind Her Majesty's Theatre in Cohen Place, which runs between Little Bourke and Lonsdale Streets. The Museum precinct is close to a range of accommodation options, easy to access by public transport and is surrounded by cafes, restaurants and shops.
Getting to Chinatown
By train: Any train to Parliament station (closest), Melbourne Central station or Flinders Street station, then walk to Little Bourke Street (5 to 10 minutes).
By tram: Any tram along Swanston Street to Bourke or Lonsdale streets; the free City Circle Tram to Parliament House on Spring Street, then walk to Little Bourke Street.
Free Melbourne City Tourist Shuttle: Stop 4. The complete trip includes 13 stops and takes approximately an hour and a half. The bus runs every 30 minutes between 9.30am and 4.30pm daily (excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day).
By foot: Two and a half blocks north from Federation Square (about 10 minutes).
